Chakras
The word ‘chakra’ comes from the ancient Indian language known as Sanskrit and translates to spinning wheel, circle or vortex. The modern usage of the word is “Wheel of Light”. Chakras are the vital energy centres of the human body located in the nerve ganglia along the spine. They are conceived as spinning vortices channelling energy. Blockages or interruptions of energy flow is believed to cause illness, confusion or emotional difficulty.

The Crown Chakra is represented by the colour violet or white. It is situated on the top of the head or crown area and is the link between the human and divine.

The Third Eye Chakra is represented by the colour indigo. It is situated in the middle of the forehead linking the eyebrows and controls knowledge, intuition and perception.

The Throat Chakra is represented by the colour blue. It is situated at the base of the neck in the throat and controls creativity and self expression.

The Heart Chakra is represented by the colour green. It is situated in the centre of the chest around the area of the heart and relates to love and self acceptance.

The Solar Plexus Chakra is represented by the colour yellow. It is situated at the base of the rib cage and is the centre of our base emotions.

The Sacral Plexus Chakra is represented by the colour orange. Also known as the Splenic Chakra, it is situated in the lower abdomen and controls our reproductive drive and influences our sexuality.

The Base Chakra is represented by the colour red. Also known as the Root Chakra, it is situated at the base of the spine and controls the ‘animal body’ ~ the involuntary functions such as breathing, instinct and survival.
